I’m Devin Cuevas, A mixed Media Animator from Northern California currently living In Brooklyn.

Fascinated by the concept of public opinion and the implications of a mediated world, I went to UC Berkeley to Study Journalism and Media. My time in the classroom is where my work developed it’s creed, while my time outside the classroom (all things love, laugh, living/working), is where it got it’s character. Since graduating in 2018, I’ve challenged my creative capabilities through a balance of client projects, passion projects and many long nights behind the bar (part of the living/working component).

My work merges digital platforms with analog techniques to create a fresh look that feels rough yet polished at the same time. This mix of old and new can be seen as a metaphor for my work which contextualizes stories of the past in a way that invites us to envision new futures. My work presents familiar, everyday things in a way that asks unfamiliar questions.

My time away from animating often involves music (all forms but particularly local gigs), pickup basketball (soccer is getting a trial run right now), people watching with my dog (working behind the bar gives me a good view too although my dog can’t join me there). And of course, as a consumer myself, seeking out media from other talented artists and storytellers.

As much as I value time spent practicing my craft, I’ve come to learn that time spent in community is just as essential. While technical skill can make a good animator, lived experience makes them an artist and storyteller.
